Economic Proof (Total:Total 1), a.m., London, 9th – 11th July 2015

“Concretely, Adam’s performances respond to carefully chosen venues. These have included “The slow home” in the abandoned Foyles building in Soho and variously in ad hoc and broken into building sites across Southwark. These performances develop through a tightly nuanced series of poetic logics that act as a sort of scaffolding within these venues for the concepts, materialities, collectivities and politics threaded through each of his works.... these performances include an individually and collectively experienced material, in this case: heating spanners, heating the room, heating the audience and heating himself.

The contingency of these events in Economic Proof (Total:Total 1), the materials and experiences of this overheating are meticulously convened to combine, double and layer chance, unpredictability, technologies, bodies, and situational politics. By staking a bet on horses racing concurrent to the performance, Adam punctuates the space by declaring whether or not he has won or lost and whether as a result there will be enough funds to invest back into the performance – purchasing more gas for the heater and potentially putting down an even bigger wager on a victorious horse.”

Tom Clark, 2016
